Large language models (LLMs) are sophisticated artificial intelligence systems trained on enormous amounts of text data that can understand, generate, and manipulate human language in remarkably human-like ways. These models work by recognizing patterns in language and predicting what text should come next based on the context they're given. They can answer questions, summarize text, translate between languages, and much more.
Many of these AI models do not just work with text anymore, they can work with images, video, computer code, and audio and these multimodal models are called foundation models. Some of the major foundation models are:
- Microsoft Copilot
- Open AI's ChatGPT
- Google's Gemini
- Anthropic's Claude
